Dear Bangladesh-Canada Association, Windsor-Essex (BCAWE) Community Members,
BCAWE is thrilled to announce the upcoming International Mother Language Festival (IMLF) 2025! This vibrant celebration will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 3:30 PM to 10:30 PM at the Giovanni Caboto Club (Caboto Hall), located at 2175 Parent Ave, Windsor, ON N8X 4K2, Canada.
The IMLF is more than just an event; it's a heartfelt celebration of linguistic and cultural diversity. This festival underscores the importance of preserving and promoting mother tongues, a cause deeply rooted in the history of International Mother Language Day. International Mother Language Day (IMLD) commemorates the events of February 21, 1952, when brave individuals sacrificed their lives to protect their right to speak their mother tongue, emphasizing the deep connection between language and cultural identity. Proclaimed by UNESCO and later adopted by the UN General Assembly, IMLD highlights the crucial role of languages in promoting inclusion and achieving Sustainable Development Goals. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving linguistic diversity and fostering multilingual education to build inclusive and sustainable societies (UNESCO and UN).
The festival promises an array of engaging activities designed to foster a deeper appreciation for linguistic diversity. Attendees can look forward to:
